Tianqi Du débute l’étude du piano à cinq ans sous la houlette du professeur Xueyun Chen. Il remporte rapidement des dizaines de prix dans des concours locaux, avant de donner son premier récital à l’âge de dix ans. Sous la houlette du célèbre pédagogue chinois Dan Zhaoyi, il se distingue ensuite dans de nombreux concours de piano nationaux et internationaux comme le Concours de piano Toyama de Hong Kong, le Concours de piano Steinway de Chine, le Concours de piano de Wiesbaden, le Concours international de piano de San Jose en Californie, le Concours de piano Chopin d’Asie ou le Concours de concerto du Festival international de piano de Pékin. On peut l’applaudir, entouré de prestigieux orchestres, dans les concertos de Chopin, Schumann, Grieg ou Scriabine, sans oublier le Concerto en sol de Ravel. Il est l’invité des scènes de Berlin, Jérusalem, Torun, San Jose, Tokyo et des plus grandes villes de Chine – Pékin, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Xiamen, Chongqing et Guiyang. À partir de 2016, Tianqi Du se forme auprès du pianiste et pédagogue américano-taïwanais Meng- Chieh Liu au New England Conservatory de Boston. En 2021, le pianiste britannique Nicolas Hodges devient son mentor. Le jeune pianiste se plaît également à explorer d’autres formes d’art, réalise plusieurs vidéos expérimentales et se fait l’interprète de ses propres compositions.
Pour sa première parution sous le label naïve, le pianiste chinois Tianqi Du embrasse majestueusement un monument pour clavier, les Variations Goldberg. Sa lecture éminemment pianistique du chef-d’œuvre de Bach donne tout son sens au principe de la métamorphose, qui sans cesse ré-invente sans jamais dénaturer, et magnifie toutes les ressources de son instrument.

Tianqi Du began piano studies at the age of five with Professor Xueyun Chen, and was soon awarded dozens of prizes in domestic competitions, before giving his first recital when only ten years old. Later, under the mentorship of the celebrated Chinese piano educator Professor Dan Zhaoyi, he was awarded prizes in a number of national and international piano competitions, including the Hong Kong Toyama Piano Competition, the China Steinway Piano Competition, the Wiesbaden Youth Piano Competition, the San Jose International Youth Piano Competition, the Asia Chopin Piano Competition and the Second Beijing International Piano Festival Concerto Competition. Du has performed many concertos – including those of Chopin, Schumann, Grieg, Scriabin and Ravel’s Concerto in G major – with a number of orchestras at international venues in Berlin, Jerusalem, Torun, San Jose, Tokyo and major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Xiamen, Chongqing and Guiyang. In 2016, Tianqi Du began studying with the American-Taiwanese pianist and professor Meng-Chieh Liu at the New England Conservatory. In 2021, the British pianist Nicolas Hodges began mentoring him. As a young artist, Du also explores diverse art forms and has made several experimental videos, as well as having performed musical compositions of his own.
For his first appearance under the naïve label, the Chinese pianist Tianqi Du majestically embraces a monument for keyboard, the Goldberg Variations. His pianistic interpretation of Bach’s masterpiece affirms the principle of metamorphosis, always reinventing but never altering, emphasising all the resources of the instrument.
